The coaching was very positive. Both preparing the content of looking for a new job and the attention paid to the emotional process you are going through. Together with your consultant you go through a step-by-step plan which will, for example, give you an idea about your own values and preferences, but also about your strengths and weaknesses as an employee. This requires quite some effort but it also gives you something in return. It is like looking in a mirror and it thus gives a clear direction to your search for a new job.

Besides, I learned a lot about how selection procedures work and how to prepare for a recruitment process. The workshops – e.g. about making a CV, applying by telephone, illustrating strengths – provide insights which I can use for the rest of my career. The contact with ‘partners in misfortune’ – who are not just anybody - manager, VPs of large companies, CFOs ... – put my mind at ease. Being dismissed can happen to everyone. The added value of RiseSmart is that they have very competent and experienced coaches whose first concern is always the satisfaction and success of candidates. Nice detail: due to the geographical coverage of RiseSmart I was able to get lots of things done in the branch nearest to my home. That was quite pleasant and saved me a lot of time.

A tip for people ending up in a similar situation: being dismissed is not a walk in the park, but it is not the end of the world. Try to follow the step-by-step outplacement plan and do not anything rash. It will give you a job that really suits you and you will gain experience that will come in handy in the rest of your career."

“Following an internal reorganisation I was dismissed in the spring of 2011. When you are 61 and have worked professionally for 42 years, it hits you hard. Because of my age it was not so obvious to find a new challenging job. According to the statistics it would take a year, but after just a few weeks I signed the contract with my current employer. The consultant who coached me made me see that I had to continue to believe in myself and my qualities. In order to convince others, you first have to be convinced yourself. 

My self-confidence got a nice boost. I did not just accept the first job that was offered to me. My new position really suits me. The coaching method at RisSmart was soft and efficient. If you made an adequate self-analysis and you accept your strong and weak points, it will be easier to apply for specific jobs. The workshops were also excellent. They teach you something new or your own knowledge is updated. In addition, you learn from the experience of people who went through the same. “After my unexpected dismissal – and after considering all the options – I started my outplacement with great enthusiasm. The most important aspect of outplacement is the ‘objectivation’ of looking for other work. I did not feel like constantly moaning about why I got fired.  But I did feel like looking for means to get a new job: write a personal profile, compare different ways of working (for an employer or as a self-employed), learn to work with the different job sites, make weekly assignments, learn to present real, not faked, interests. All these are aspects that help you remain “professional” and not resort to self-pity.”




“When I was 45 I lost my job due to economical reasons. I had worked at the same company in production for 23 years. So, there was not much variation in my work experience. Then I attended an administrative HR assistant training. This meant going back to school for 20 weeks and a 6-week work placement. But after the training the real work began: finding a job.
